Shawn Fanning’s Snocap

Shawn Fanning is back, but I guess you can say that he was never gone. Shawn and a few partners have started a new company that is hoping to bring back file sharing in a legal way. From what I can tell, they want to set up peer to peer networks that allow file sharing amongst individuals without the fear that goes along with downloading illegally. The company is called Snocap and it manages digital rights for media. When you are browsing peer to peer networks, you can pick a song file that is being shared, but you will be re-directed to another location where you can legally download a lower quality full length “sample” of the song and later be asked to download the full quality version for a fee. Sounds like it can be a good idea if they can keep the prices down. I really wouldn’t mind spending $0.50 to $0.75 for a new song.

Three Great Audio Resources

Sunday, April 24th, 2005

I just happened to come across a few great sites for people who are in love with music. The first, 3hive.com is a site that has been around for quite some time and has a cult following already. You can browse 3hive’s list of offically released and downloadable mp3 music files of indie bands. I found several great songs that have made it to my playlist already. The way that the site is organize is so user friendly and you can even stream the songs using iTunes, Windows Media Player, or Winamp. The next site, Blogdigger.Com , lets you search the contents of blogs…that sounds pretty cool, but the coolest thing is that you can search for media files like mp3’s and bittorent files. *Update -George Lucas has sent the MPAA out to shut down bittorrent files in a big way. I spent hours just looking for clips of new songs. The last site, WebJay.Org, lets you create playlists from audio files that are found on the internet. You can then share your playlists with the world…in that sense you become a WebJay. You have to check it out to see the whole coolness factor.

A new world of music. Get audiostiled.

Maybe you love to listen to tunes on your iPod or other personal music player, but you just can’t find the time to organize and select your own playlists. The new age of the “mix tape” is here with Audiostiles.com NOT Audiostyles.Com. They will select and download personal playlist and party playlists for the people who just don’t have enought time in the day. I can’t figure why you wouldn’t have time to select your own playlists, but these guys are professionals.
